Websites for Electricians
Hi guys. I am Joe Burnich with Big West Marketing, and we empower small businesses to succeed online, and we do this by simplifying all this internet marketing stuff. Okay. So if you're watching this video, it's because you want to know how to do websites for electrical contractors. So if you're an electrician, I'm going to show you how to do website design the right way. Okay. I'm going to show you stuff that hardly anybody else is doing let's get started right now.
If you take advantage of the stuff I'm about to show you, this is going to give you a huge advantage. All right? You will beat out the big companies. You will be able to beat out big franchise companies. Okay? And this is easy stuff, no techie stuff. I made this simple so that any business owner can understand this and execute it. Whether it's hiring their web designer to make a little change, whatever. Or if you're doing your own website, you can do it yourself, whatever it is. Okay. But right now, if you're watching this, I'm going to draw your attention to a link below for a free consultation. If you're watching this and you get stuck, you start having questions, you want us to review your website and show you what you can do better, we are offering a free 30 minute consultation.
This is a $97 value for the first, but we're doing the first 30 minutes free. Okay. This is not a sales call. This is a true consultation where we're going to give advice. If we're a good fit, yes. We'll make a pitch to you at the end of it, but other than that, it's just free information to get you where you need to be. Take advantage of this stuff, guys. This will speed you to success. Like I said, the link is right there below.
All right. So what I want to do now is pull up my PowerPoint. Okay. So the way I look at the internet is like a battlefield. Okay? It's competitive out there. You've got a lot of competitors in your city, and someone is gunning for you. Someone is they're trying to take you out. You know what I'm talking about?
Your Website is Your Tank
Okay. I look at your website as your tank. So you're coming on this internet battlefield, and your website is your tank. This is going to be your power. Okay. But let's talk about what's on the line. Okay? I mean, failure is right around the corner. Anybody can take you out at any time. You know this to be true. Okay? There's lots of different things that can cause your business to fail, and you probably have a mortgage. You probably have a family to feed. I mean, there is a lot on the line here. Having just a pretty website that somebody created for you for your business is not just a nice little thing anymore. It is the thing, and it can make or break your business if you don't do this right, especially when the economy takes a crash. Okay? If there's an economic correction, you want to be one of the survivors, and having a good website and internet presence is going to do that for you.
Okay? So the big question is what are you going to bring to the battlefield? All right. Are you going to bring this? Are you going to bring something weak, bring a little toy? Or are you going to bring this? All right. I'm going to show you, in this video, how to turn your website into this. Okay. So let's get started.
Most Websites for Electricians get it WRONG
Now, the good news is 95% of websites out there are getting it wrong. Your website is probably getting it wrong. It's not your fault, and here's why, because web designers either come in two varieties. You've got the artist over here that likes to make beautiful websites with perfect colors and fonts and pictures and blah, blah, blah. And then you've got the guy over here on the other hand who is more like the techie geek guy that's into like the code and the programming and the functionality of the website, both important.
Okay. But there's something missing. What's missing? Why are these websites not converting? Why is your website not turning people into phone calls when people land on there? Okay. I'll tell you what it is missing from website design for electricians. It's proven marketing principles. Proven marketing principles are the key to success. You see, the artist over here thinks that a pretty website is going to get calls. The programmer thinks that nice code programming is going to get the calls, but neither one of these people are marketers. Okay? So you need proven marketing principles, time tested stuff that does not change as a principle. That's your key to success. All right.
Here's proof. Here's Tony, one of our clients. We designed a website for cloning for Tony several years ago, and he talks about how he went from 25K a year to 250K a year. He says, "I give credit to you," talking about our company "for making a significant impact on the success of my business by creating a website that actually works."
Websites that GET CALLS
The keywords there are "actually works". Not just a pretty website. Yes, you want your website to look pretty and impress your friends and all that stuff, but more importantly, we're looking for a website for electricians that works, that gets calls, that gets jobs, that creates a profit, a good life for you and your family. Okay? So equip your tank, your website, with the most powerful marketing principles.
Who am I to even talk about this? I own Big West Marketing, Inc. Okay? We've been around since 2009. At the time I'm making this video, we have five employees. Okay. Small shop up here in Missoula, Montana. We specialize in web design that works and then driving Google traffic to the website. We do other stuff too, but that's our main thing right now is Google traffic to a website that actually works.
Okay. We have 940 clients plus in four different countries, having this many clients, I think gives us the credibility to decide what works and what doesn't. Lots of stuff. Lots of feedback to give us this advantage that a lot of people don't have, and we specialize in the industry. Okay. We're industry specialists. The complete solution. This video is part of a complete solution where we talk about Google SEO for electricians, Google Adworks for electricians, getting Google reviews. This video, specifically, is all about a website on the phone. Okay. So let's jump in right now.
The five simple things. Okay. Like I said, I'm going to break it down to make it simple for anybody to understand. Grab your pen. Grab your paper. Let's get started now. We're going to go over going with a mobile first website, number two, creating a clarity headlines, what I call a clarity headline, creating a call to action, crafting the about us page, and then number five, instant trust symbols. So, stay tuned for all of these. Super important.
Mobile First Websites
All right. Let's talk about this first simple thing. Website design for electricians is all about mobile first. Okay? I talked to people like, "Oh, Joe, I got a website and it's mobile friendly." Really? Okay. You notice how I crossed out mobile friendly? I don't want to make friends with a website. I want to have a website that gets jobs. Okay. Okay. And the phone is the key because 80 to 90% of the people will see you on their phone first. Web designers are still designing, beautiful, big websites for the desktop, and that's fine, but it's like mobile is the afterthought, even though 80 to 90% of the people see that first. Okay. You need to go where people are, which is on their damn phones.
You're probably watching this video on your phone. That should tell you something. Okay. And let's look at an example. Here's my website, BigWestMarketing.com. If you go to our website, what do you see? You see a big tap to call button. You see a tap to text button, which I'm going to get into in a minute, a nice bold get a free consultation now button, and then down below. We have a bar here with three different things and it doesn't matter which page you're on, where you're scrolling up and down the page, this is always there. People can always call us, text us. They can hit my little YouTube link and start watching my videos because I do a lot of sales through YouTube, obviously. I'm a video guy. All right.
So real quick, we came up with this. This is awesome. We came up with this thing, and it is blowing the socks off our website and our clients' websites because what we do is we put a tap to text button on the website at the top, your client taps on that. It opens up their text messaging program on their phone, populates your phone number in there, and they can send you a quick text message. Some people don't want to commit to a phone call. They want to just do a quick text to get a conversation started. You turn that into a phone call. You turn that into a job, and you make more money, period. That's how powerful this one little feature, one little change can do it. Okay. So make sure your website is button heavy. Everybody's on their phone, hitting buttons all day long. You are. I am. Why not make your website go right along with that?
Buttons on Your Website for action
Okay. Make your website make sense to people and put buttons on there. Nice, big bold buttons, simple. Have your web designer do that. I look at the buttons as like the artillery on your tank. Okay. You got the best artillery out there. You're going to win Wars. Okay. Just with simple things like that.
Simple thing number two, your clarity headline. Okay. So you pick one big services and make it crystal clear. I know as an electrician, you've got lots of different services. I get it. You need to have that on separate pages or like a list, but don't put it in your clarity headline, pick your one big moneymaking service and put that in your headline. Now, the bottom line is, if you confuse, you lose. If you give people too many things all at once, I know you want to tell people all about what you do all at one time, but you're going to confuse them, and you will lose if you do this.
This is where a lot of guys get it wrong. Most people get it wrong, in fact. Okay. Create a simple headline that explains what you do and who you do it for in a short, powerful statement. So, here's where you write something down. Get your pen and paper, pause the video if you need to, and notice how simple this is, guys. I said, I'm making this for you. Okay? You're going to write down, "We provide exceptional blank to blank." Now you're going to fill in the blanks. Okay? That's all you got to do. That's your only assignment on step two. Okay?
Now, here's an example of what we did for our business, and watch how powerful this is. I say, "We provide web design and online marketing services to small business." Now you know exactly what we do and who we do it for in three to five seconds. You have three to five seconds to make people feel like they trust you and understand what you do on a phone.
You understand that, okay? They're not going to be spending 10 minutes looking at your website like you hope they are. They're going to look at it and be like, "Oh, I am a small business. I do need web design." Okay. Boom. "I'm going to check this out further." All right. You see what I'm saying? You see how powerful that is? Once again, the bottom line is, if you confuse, you lose. Write that statement down. If you confuse, you lose. Do not confuse people. Okay?
Strong Headlines on Your Website
I look at the clarity headline or that clarity statement as the cannon on your tank. So you're coming onto the battlefield and you're like, "Here's what I do, and here's who I do for it." Nobody's going to be confused about what you came to do and how you came to play, how you came to fight this war, fight this battle. It's going to be super clear to people that you came to play. All right?
So let's move on. Simple thing number three, we want to create a call to action. So now they know what you do. Now you need to tell them what to do. All right? So if you don't tell them what to do, it's kind of like expecting your kids to clean their rooms versus telling them they need to. I don't know if you have kids guys. If you do, you're going to relate to this. I've got two daughters, two little girls, when they come over on the weekends, the first thing I tell them, "Girls, clean your rooms before you play with your iPads." That's the rule in my house. Okay. They know the rule. They know it, but I still have to tell them every single time they come over. All right, you see, your clients are exactly the same.
And according to the small business trends, 70% of small business websites lack a call to action. Do not fall into that and keep that in mind when talking about website design for electricians. 70% guys. There's even a whole book called Don't Make Me Think all about this, and watch how simple this is. Here's my favorite one. "Free estimates. Call now, phone number." Can you do that? Okay. Just putting the words "call now" in front of your phone number can actually double, triple the amount of people that actually pick up the phone and call. That's a tried and true marketing principle that was developed like back in the sixties or seventies when advertising started to become a big thing, and it's so big.
You can put it on your billboards, put it on your van wraps, put it on your business cards, put it on your radio ads. I don't care what you do to get business. Put call now before your phone number or free estimates call now, and you will double, triple your business just with that simple thing. That's how powerful this is, and notice, we'll go back to the buttons that I said you need to have on your mobile first website. Notice I don't just put the phone number on the button. Notice I don't just put a pretty picture on the button of a phone. Okay. I'm actually telling people what to do with words. Tap to call. Tap to text.
You notice late night infomercials, they scream this stuff out loud to where it's almost obnoxious, but they're spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on these, promoting these infomercials. You think that they're going to waste money by putting a little phone number at the bottom. Do you have a little phone number at the top or bottom of your website, and you're hoping that people know what to do? Most people do that, or just a picture of a phone.
Inspiring Action on Your Site
Follow the example of these infomercial people. You're not being pushy. You're just telling people what their brain wants to do, which is what's the next step? People need that. Their brains need that. It's all subconscious. It's a psychological thing. It's a marketing principle. Use it and dominate. I look at the call to action like, okay, so you got your artillery and you got this tank so people know what you're all about. Now, we're going to start firing away. So the call to action is like the trigger on the tank. So you load up the artillery. Now you're firing away. Do this, do that, call now, act now, free estimates call now. Boom. See how powerful that can be?
All right. Simple thing number four, your powerful about us page is where a lot of people go wrong, and I used to. I didn't think it was a big deal until now. So here's a fact, not my opinion. Here's a fact. The second most visited page other than the homepage is the about us page, but it's also the most neglected. I didn't believe that. I didn't believe it until I took one of my websites.
Here's a screenshot of one of my websites that gets two to 3000 unique visitors per month. So I think it's a good way to get some good data coming back over a period of a few months and what this heat map does... I put a heat map on here. What the heat map does is it tells me what people click on the most, and it does this by putting these little, it does it with colors. So the red means it gets the most clicks. So you've got little red dots over here. Little red dot down here. A lot of greens and blues. Greens and blues mean very few clicks.
The about us page it has a big red dot on it. What does that tell me? Tells me that this is getting more clicks than anything else, the about us page. So what did I do? I went straight to my about us page and I soup that up, and I made it powerful. How? Okay. Here's how you create a powerful about us page. Once again, simple stuff, guys. Don't overthink this. Get your wife involved. Get your team involved, whatever it takes. Just get this done. Okay. Create an about us page that tells people your story and connects with people, with humans. Use personal pictures and video.
Talk about why you started your business. Don't regurgitate the home page and talk about what you do. Okay. That's what most people do, and that's wrong. Talk about why you started your business, what you love about your business, put pictures of you, your family, your team, whatever it takes. Now, my dad's business, what he did on his about us page. He actually put this picture and this is about him, and then he wrote a little story about how he goes to the Philippines, and he has this nonprofit where he helps these kids. These kids that live in poverty get to school, get some clothes and school supplies, backpacks, all that good stuff. Has nothing to do with his business, but people see this and they're like, they look at three or four different people they want to work with and they read this, and they're like, "I want to work with this dude. This is the kind of guy I want to work with."
He's connecting with people on a personal level. You don't have to go that extreme, but like I said, just get personal, make it so that people land on there and be like, "This is the kind of person. This is the kind of business I want to work with. "That's what you need to do to beat out the big guys. Super powerful, and I think of the about us as like the traction on the tank. This is what gets the tank moving down the battlefield. Does that make sense? All right, let's move on.
Website Design for Electricians need to build TRUST
Now we're talking about the final thing. The simple thing number five, instant trust symbols. You're probably doing a little bit of this, but you can do it way better. Here's how. Okay. We want to get your top three testimonials on your homepage. If they're in video form, that's best. If they're not, don't worry about it, but get your three top testimonials. If you have 150 other ones, put those on their own page, but you want the top three on your homepage. Okay? Then you want logos for associations, organizations, logos for product industry brands, guarantee badges, social media. People may not know what the hell any of this stuff is. They might not know about your associations or the brands that you're promoting. You got all these little icons, little badges, whatever you want to call them little graphics. They don't care, but if they look at your website and look at somebody else's and you have that and the other ones don't, once again, it's a marketing principle. It's a psychological thing that happens subconsciously where it creates instant trust. They want to call you not this guy because you got all this stuff on here. Okay?
So all of this kind of stuff. Stuff that looks like this, put that on your website, super easy. Have your web designer do that or do it yourself, whatever it takes. Let's recap the five simple things, guys. You do these five things, you will dominate your competition. You will dominate your city in your industry. I promise you because nobody else is doing this. We're going to go mobile first. Not just mobile friendly, mobile first with big, big buttons. We're going to create a clarity headlines so people will know what you do and who you do it for. We're going to create a distinct call to action. So they know exactly what to do. You're not going to expect them to just call you. You're going to tell them to call you. You're going to create a powerful about us page that connects with people on a human level.
Okay? And then we're going to use instant trust symbols. Okay. We're going to create all those instant trust symbols. Now, like I said before, this is part of a complete solution. I've got five videos for electrical contractors talking about all this stuff, how to do Google SEO, Google ad words, get Google reviews. Go watch all these videos. I put links to all the videos down below. Go watch them now.
