Okay, so before we start digging into the nitty gritty of pressure washing marketing, let’s talk about why we’re doing marketing. So of course, we want to grow our pressure washing business and make more money. We all want that. That’s obvious. But there’s something deeper there and I’m going to tell you a little story and Maybe you can relate. When I started my service business back in 2009 up here in beautiful Missoula, Montana, I had a brand new baby, a new wife. Struggling, man. Just struggling to make ends meet. And so I started my business and things aren’t going that well.
Battling the Competition
On top of that, another guy starts a business behind me a few months after me, has a very similar business name. And then I find this guy on the forums talking about how he copied my name and how he’s going to put me out of business. And okay, that pissed me off. But on top of that, he was doing shit work. I’d be getting calls from people saying, “Why did you do bad work? Why do you show up late?” All this different stuff. It always turned out to be this guy. So not only was he … And then on top of that, he was undercutting all my prices. Man, that burned me up. Anytime I’d do any advertising or do any bids or estimates, he would always be undercutting me. All right?
And so what that did is that really got me into the marketing game. I used marketing as a way to protect myself against these guys like this. Because the way I look at is, they’re stealing money from me. They’re making me look bad. They’re stealing money from me, stealing food off my kid’s plates. And then on top of that, I just kept having this thought. What if guys like that make me fail? Because I know I’m better than them and I know I do better work. I’m a more honest, more ethical person, but this guy’s gonna win? Nope. That’s not gonna happen. And I used marketing to do that.
How to get started with Pressure Washing Marketing
So I’m going to show you the online marketing that I used and how you can use it for your business as well. All right, so check out this cool little graphic I made. I call it the Complete Solution. I like to talk about Google. That’s what my business focuses on, is doing Google for our clients. So if we’re doing pressure washing and we’re focused on marketing for your pressure washing business, it’s all about Google and I’ll tell you why.
What really works when it comes to marketing for pressure washing?
Everybody’s talking about Facebook and social marketing and all this stuff. Fine. I’m not saying you can’t get work off that stuff if you really put your mind to it, but it’s going to take a ton of time and energy and what you’re doing is you’re pushing stuff in front of people’s faces when they’re trying to talk to their high school friends or they’re looking at funny cat videos, whatever they’re doing on Facebook or these social media. They’re not in the mode of wanting pressure washing. So if you do make it work, the timing has to be perfect. It’s going to be expensive, time, energy. I recommend you go where people are looking for you. People are looking for pressure washers on Google, whether you like Google or not, I’ve got my issues with Google, they’re still the king when it comes to getting new work, new clients.
Search Engine Optimization and Google Ads
Look at this wheel I made. We’ve got Google SEO. That’s the map section. Somebody types in pressure washing, your city name, then you want to come up in that map section. You’re going to get a ton of work off that for your pressure washing business. The next one is Google AdWords. That’s the paper click stuff at the top. A lot of people don’t like this. It’s expensive. But the cool part is you can rank in lots of multiple cities and you can do it quickly. And if pressure washing marketing is done right, which I’m going to show you guys how to do it right, you can make a lot of mistakes with both SEO and AdWords. If you do it right and do it the way I’m going to show you, you’re going to save a ton of money and your competitors are not going to understand what the hell you’re doing. All right?
Google Reviews and SEO
But, let’s move down the circle here. So then, we’ve got Google reviews. This is something that most people overlook. Have you ever consulted Amazon reviews before making a purchase? Of course you have. We all do. Have you ever consulted Yelp? Probably, when you’re choosing a restaurant. People are looking at Google reviews before they choose a pressure washer in your town. The person with the most five star views is going to get those calls. I don’t care how high you’re ranked or whatever, you’re gonna get the most calls. So what I’m saying is, if you use Google reviews in conjunction, you know the combo effect with AdWords and SEO, it’s going to take it double, triple, five X, even 10 X. That’s what the reviews do. They’re like turbo boosters. All right?
But I want to get into this even deeper and talk about something even more important that most people overlook. Notice in the middle here, I don’t have a website. If you want a successful pressure washing business, you need to have a website to make all this stuff work correctly, right? You need to have a good website. But notice, I’ve got a smart phone in the middle there. I don’t know if you know this, but most people are on their smartphones and they’re not on their computers. 80% of the people … You’re probably watching this video on a smartphone, if I was gonna guess. But think about it. Why is everybody still designing websites for the computer and then like the mobile is just an afterthought? Everybody is saying make it mobile-friendly. No, screw that. I’m done with all this mobile-friendly talk. I want my website to convert, get clients, get calls, get leads coming in. Not just be friendly. I’m not looking to make friends with my website. I’m not looking to impress people with my website, even though I consider my websites very impressive.
